Show your professionalism during job interview

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

There are many people, who are not called by any organisation after they give interview even though they possess excellent academic record, charming personality and hardworking nature. Where do they lack? What is missing in them that they do not get success in finding any job? The answer is ‘professional attitude’! Yes, the professional attitude is something that before proving it during work, you have it to show it at the time of interview too.

Interview is the first phase where you must show your employer that you are not only hardworking and talented but ‘professional’ too — a quality many people lack even though being extremely talented in their respective fields.

Professionalism means that you know the norms of your job and are ready to follow them at any cost and that you are committed to your job and are willing to fulfil all your job-related responsibilities despite any or all social restrictions. For example, an air hostess during the interview is asked to assure the employer that she is willing to perform all tasks an air-hostess is supposed to do without any hesitation. If the person to be interviewed replies like “I will try”, “May be”, “I don’t know”, “Depends” — all these words show a casual attitude and lack of professionalism resulting in getting disqualified after the first round of interview.

All those girls and guys out there, avoid all these casual words and casual behaviour during interview — the employer who is going to appoint you for his organisation, who is going to invest his money on your training; wants to see in you the guts, devotion to your profession and a spark in your eyes to give your best to your job. Any thing, any movement that shows your carelessness towards work ethics will get you disqualified immediately. That’s why besides showing your degree and knowledge; also show your maturity and professionalism towards work during interview — it counts a lot!

Not everyone can become a marketer!

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Marketing jobs are one of the highest paid jobs throughout the world and that’s why the number of MBAs with major in Marketing is increasing day-by-day. But the irony is that most of the youngsters tend to follow the trend be it in fashion, technology or CAREER!

Just like every fashion does not suit everyone, similarly every career doesn’t go well with everyone. A girl with a heavy physique and short height would look a laughingstock in saari¸ a boy would look awful in sherwani if his height and physique are not masculine. Same goes while choosing a career!

If an introvert person who does not want to mingle with others and can’t work well as a team player, chooses a career in marketing, then it would be a disaster!

A career in marketing needs a person with excellent communication skills — both oral and written, an outgoing nature, having a natural tendency to make and retain contacts and pursue the customers for purchasing the products. In addition to this, a marketer is also required to have patience to gracefully accept the negative feedback from the consumers and work on it for the betterment of the product in order to satisfy the customers.

Moral of the story is that one should not go for a career in marketing just because it can get you a highly-paid job. Of course, MBA with major in marketing can help in finding an excellent job but only to those who have outstanding marketing skills and not just the degree. A person, who does not have a natural flair of marketing, can’t become a good marketer — no matter he possesses an A+ MBA degree.

Looking for a part time job?

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Finding a part time job in Pakistan is not an easy task where many full time jobs are not reasonable enough to meet the basic requirements of life. Many part time jobs here are not ‘part time’ in reality — they need about six hours of work, which is almost equivalent to a full time job. A part time job should be of three hours at most, besides the pay should be about at least one-fourth of the normal full time pay — these are the basic expectations of people from a part time job.

When you start searching for a part time job, you come across many options such as teaching, doing online data entry work, writing articles, baby sitting, some office related work, etc.

Teaching is one such option that if you adopt it as a part time job, you will just have to give about 2-3 hours to it and if you become successful in getting a job in a good-reputed institute, then of course, pay would also be reasonable but teaching is not everyone’s job — not all are good at teaching, it is something that is God-gifted and that’s why teaching is not the option as a part time job for all.

Next comes the online data entry jobs — the ads that we see in newspapers and job-related websites, promise to give you an opportunity to earn about $300-400 a month after charging a nominal fee for registration. But the truth is quite opposite to what is shown in these advertisements! Of course, you can earn good money from online jobs, but not that easily as it is assumed — the work load is too much and it is literally difficult to manage for those who do a full time job.

One reasonable option for those with a flair for writing is online writing jobs — you can search for some good websites that need content writers and do online writing assignments just by sitting at your home and can earn good money. You just need a computer with an internet connection. Besides, you can also look for the international news websites, newsletters or magazines that cover international issues — Of course, they need excellent writing skills and knowledge of the current affairs; if you have these skills, you can contribute to them and can get good money. Making PRs takes time and searching for such websites as mentioned here takes time; in addition to this you have to wait to get your article published after they approve but once you make it, it becomes easy to get published and earn handsome money just by sitting at you personal computer.

If you are an artist and have a flair to depict your thoughts through pictures, you can become an illustrator for magazines. Many magazines that are published either with esteemed newspapers or independently need illustrators — just show them your work and if you get approval, you can make money by unleashing your hidden talent and it would be an ideal part time job for those who remain busy throughout the day with their full time job.

Though difficult, but finding a reasonable part time job is not an impossible task. You are just required to put your talent and efforts at the right place and luck will be on your side!
