Every one of us wants to get promoted after a certain period of time in his/her career but not all of us succeed in doing it at the right time. This is because we do not build strategies and plans to move up on that corporate ladder. Today, we will discuss few important ways that can help you get promoted at the right time. 1. Establish your network

One way of getting promoted relatively quickly is to expand your network as much as possible. Get to know more people, because the more people you know the more they will know you. It is but natural that your name will be taken in most of the meetings. Develop good relationships with your seniors and managers; get closer to individuals who are the key movers and shakers in your company. Your name must be mentioned in their good books and they should be impressed by your strengths and capabilities.

2. Never say “No”

This is very important in the development of your job anywhere in the world. Those who promote you want to know whether or not this guy could take more responsibilities. Therefore, volunteer more and never say no to your seniors. Prove to them your value; prove to them that the company needs you and that you deserve to be promoted. Assist your colleagues, team leads and managers as much as possible. The more you volunteer, the more it signifies your willingness to be successful in the company.

3. Be a problem solver

Another way to improve your chances of getting promotion is to be a problem solver and not a complainer. Whenever problems arise, managers and bosses do not usually appreciate receiving continuous complaints. Therefore, whenever you are faced with a difficulty, try to resolve it on your own instead of complaining to your manager. Offer your help to your team leads, colleagues and your manager as well when they are faced with a problem.

4. Take up new challenges

One reason why people do not get promoted quickly is because they don’t take up new challenges. You should starting looking at challenges as your opportunities to get promoted quickly. Work hard and never complain about it, show your managers that you are ready to take up any challenge.

5. Work for the next level

Working for your current position will not take you to the next level any soon. If you continue working for your current position without moving any forward then you will remain here for a longer time. In order to get promoted to the next level you should start working for that level now. If you are a team lead, then do some tasks that are done only by an assistant manager. This will allow your boss to think that you are capable of that position already.

Obviously, there are numerous tips on how to get promoted quickly and many of them could be helpful. However, the above mentioned tips are the ones that have been followed and successful in getting quickly promoted to a higher level by many people.

This is because of the high demand it maintains in local and foreign market. The demand is high particularly in countries like Pakistan and India due to the amount of cheaper outsourcing that is directed to these countries. How To Grow Your Network

Everyone knows that networking is the most effective way to find a new job, and yet most people feel their network is far too small. I want to share with you the secret of how to grow your network painlessly.

First of all, what is your network? It is simply the relationships you have with people, and when it comes to job hunting, people who are willing to help you. The more people you know who are willing to talk with you about your job search, the faster you’ll find a new job.

Here’s the secret to growing your network: Help other people. Make it your goal to help people you meet naturally during your day. Be intentional. Look for ways to help co-workers, neighbors, people in your professional organization, (What? You don’t belong to a professional organization?), people at conferences and every new person you meet.

The reason this works is the rule of reciprocity, which says that if you help people, they will be favorably inclined to return the favor in the future. By helping others you are making deposits in accounts that you can withdraw later.

What can you offer? Whatever might be helpful, and it doesn’t have to be a big deal. Perhaps you can send them a link to a website, or a copy of a relevant article. Introduce them to someone in your network. If they are in sales, ask them what a good prospect looks like. The important thing is to cultivate a habit of being interested in the needs of others. Once you discover their needs, you are well on the way to finding a way that you can help.

Today’s job market is a whirlwind of wonderfully skilled and qualified people, resumes and job leads that seem to go on into forever. The job market evolves and changes often, as does the skills required in certain careers; and as people themselves evolve and move to careers that fit their skills, abilities and lifestyle, a job search can sometimes become a full time job in itself! Anyone who has looked for a job has likely run the gamut of job search rituals. From poring over your resume to practicing interview etiquette, sometimes it feels like there’s nothing left to do but offer a prayer to the gods and hope that someone gives you a call!

Resume Re-rewrite
You probably know your resume by heart. You want your resume to be a good showcase of your talents and abilities so each potential employer can see that you are the right person for the job. But then, so does everyone else. What can you truly do during your job search to get your resume on top of the pile- or even onto the right desk? First you need to slip into the shoes of the person who is doing the hiring.

How many resumes do you think this person is seeing for the same position? Lots! So your best bet is to keep your resume and cover letter short and sweet! Too much information could mean you will get passed over simply because there isn’t enough time to read it all!

It’s good that you were captain of your sports team in high school or in charge of office supplies at your last job but the person doing the hiring is wondering what’s in it for them if they hire you. Avoid ‘cold call emails’ (emails from ‘companies’ that contact you even though you did not send them your resume) that ask you to click on a link taking you to another site and asking for personal information.

Do your own investigation by entering the company’s name into your browser instead and visit their website. Contact the company and if they are still asking for personal information right off the bat- such as your social security number- step away. Predators also will send fake emails that look as though they come from legitimate job search sites asking for credit card information. Legitimate and reputable job search sites such as Monster will never send an email asking for that type of valuable information because they know this is how the scammers work.

Just the Facts: Researching a Potential Employer
It’s been said before and rightly so: knowledge is power. Companies spend lots of time and money on research and development to give them the competitive edge over their competition; and to make your job search a success, you should, too.

The good news is, you don’t have to spend millions or an extensive amount of time just to find out what industry the company is in or the names of the senior executives (including the one in charge of hiring). Most of that information can be found on the company’s website. Do a little background reading on the company and find out who its big name clients are, for example, or even if it has had any financial or legal problems of late.

Should you be given an interview, then it is a good idea to do get into a more detailed search about the company. When the prospective employer asks what you know about the company or the position, you’ll be able to give an intelligent answer. You will also be able to ask intelligent questions. Employers like that.

Keeping Yourself in the Loop
When up to 80% of jobs never get advertised because the positions are usually filled by ‘someone who knows someone’ who is currently in their own job search, you know networking is a great way to find a job. Even though it helps to an extent, you don’t necessarily have to sign up for a program that blasts your name through a network or attend every job search fair. Just talking to others is a reliable way to keep your job search going in the right direction. Giving the heads up to others as well when you find information that might be useful makes networking a two way street that will benefit you in the long run.
